ZeroMould was founded in 2019 after one of our team members spent six months living in a Hackney flat where the bathroom ceiling kept growing black mould — no matter how many times it was painted over with anti-mould paint or scrubbed with bleach. The agent kept sending different contractors. None of them fixed it. The mould always came back within weeks.
Eventually a building surveyor explained the problem: the original bathroom extractor fan was venting straight back into the ceiling void instead of out through the roof. Every shower was pumping warm humid air directly onto the cold ceiling plaster. Cleaning the surface was useless. Without fixing the moisture source, the mould would always return.
So that's what we built. Every ZeroMould job starts with a proper inspection that finds the moisture source — whether it's a failing fan, a hidden leak, cold-bridging, or just inadequate insulation. Then we treat the mould at the substrate level using non-toxic, family-safe antimicrobials. Then we document everything: photos, root-cause analysis, and a written aftercare plan so it doesn't come back.
Six years on, ZeroMould serves all 32 London boroughs with a small but expert team of trained technicians. We've handled Victorian terraces in Camden, post-Olympic flats in Stratford, listed Georgian houses in Mayfair, and council blocks in Tottenham. The principle is the same on every job: find the cause, kill the mould properly, document the work, and make sure the family or tenant is safe throughout.
